A Douglas man has appeared in court after punching his girlfriend in the face.
28-year- old James Benjamin Wright, of Central Promenade, struck the woman during an argument in JAKS on July 1.
At Douglas Courthouse this week he admitted assaulting her causing actual bodily harm.
The court heard Wright was out with the woman, and his father, when an argument broke out just after 1am.
The couple were seen arguing on CCTV before Wright punched her in the face causing severe bruising.
In his basis of plea Wright said his partner had been verbally abusive to him throughout the night and had also struck him, but admitted his reaction was "disproportionate".
The case has been adjourned until July 25 whilst some facts in the case are agreed - Wright has been bailed until that date.
