A Liverpool man has admitted carrying out an unprovoked attack on a taxi driver in the early hours of the morning.
Stephen Joseph Rooney of Red Rock Street appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.
The 23 year old admitted causing grievous bodily harm on Harris Promenade in Douglas on December 18 last year.
Roger Kane, prosecuting, said Rooney had been one of four people in a taxi at around 3.45am.
However Rooney, who was drunk, couldn’t give the driver a destination and when the cab pulled over he got out and attacked the driver, fracturing a bone in his face.
The court heard he voluntarily handed himself into police, but answered “no comment” to all questions put to him.
Magistrates adjourned the case while pre-sentencing reports are prepared, and Rooney was bailed in the sum of £500 and committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery.
