Lt Gov to take the New Year's Day plunge

The island's Lieutenant Governor will take the plunge in the Douglas New Year's Dip to raise money for charity.

Sir John Lorimer and his wife Lady Philippa will be raising funds for Breast Cancer Now and Beach Buddies, and are sponsored by Canada Life.

After being invited to officially open the event, which last year attracted over 400 dippers, the pair decided they actually wanted to take part.

The dip takes place on the northern end of Douglas Beach, opposite the Queen's Hotel, at 12pm on New Year's Day.
