Low value coins are set to remain in circulation and the system of rounding cash transactions won’t be explored further.
That’s according to the government, after asking the public for views on whether 1p, 2p and 5p coins should be withdrawn.
The consultation had over 1,000 responses, and after feedback the decision has been made to keep small change.
However, Treasury will not mint any further 1p or 2p coins due to the cost of production and storage.
