Lifeboat called out after concerns for swimmer

Port St Mary's inshore lifeboat sprang into action yesterday after a swimmer was reportedly in difficulty.

The incident happened at around 4.15pm on Saturday, July 18.

A member of the public dialled 999 to say they'd lost sight of a swimmer in Castletown Bay, prompting the launch - but before the lifeboat arrived, it turned out the swimmer had made it safely ashore.

The RNLI station says the member of the public did exactly the right thing - and says you shouldn't hesitate to dial 999 if you're concerned.
