The Central Registry says less than 30 per cent of the Island's land is currently registered with it.
A Freedom of Information request asked for details about the amount of land that had been formally registered.
In its response, the registry said almost 16,500 hectares had already been registered - representing 28.5 per cent of the Isle of Man.
But it added the majority of land that's most frequently bought and sold is now registered.
