The Laxey Wheel could receive special legal protection under new proposals from the government.
The world's largest working water wheel is among nine historic Manx landmarks being considered for registration.
Other sites include the Foxdale Heritage Centre, the Leece Museum, the Calf of Man Bird Observatory and buildings in Cregneash.
If approved, the sites would be protected from demolition or alteration - a four week public consultation has now been launched on the proposals.
