Legal high MDAI to be outlawed from January 1st

The legal high MDAI, responsible for the death of an Island teenager in April, will be classified as an illegal substance from the 1st January 2012.

Tynwald yesterday voted in favour of its ban, following consultation with the Isle of Man's Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs.

The move makes MDAI a class C drug, it comes almost two years after mephedrone was made illegal on the Island.

Currently it's not been outlawed in the UK, with no ban looking likely to happen anytime soon.

It will remain a class C substance for the next 12 months, after which a further order will be made, subject to approval.
