Leading humanitarian visits Island

Members of the government’s Overseas Aid Committee have gained a personal insight into the work of one of the UK’s leading humanitarians and human rights campaigners.

Baroness Cox is a Life Peer and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords. She’s currently chief executive of the group HART (Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust) and well known for her missions to many of the world’s conflict zones.

She delivered a presentation about her activities in countries such as Sudan, Nigeria, Uganda and Burma to name a few, and also learned about the Isle of Man’s efforts in international aid and disaster relief.

Chairman of the committee Phil Gawne MHK said she spoke with great passion and conviction about her work and was also interested to hear about the wide range of aid projects supported by the Isle of Man.
