Landowners asked to take pro-active approach to maintaining hedges

For many decades the Department of Infrastructure has cut all the hedges around the island, however, with the reductions in budgets, this is not a function which can be continued.

The teams are selective with which areas the cut now, only choosing verges which can impede visibility at junctions.

Hedges will only be cut where safety implications have been identified.

Minister for Infrastructure, David Cretney MHK said, 'the changes have allowed the department to reduce its hedge and verge maintenance programme and budget over the last few years'.
