Knitters and crocheters are being encouraged to help out a new 'Twiddle Muffs' scheme.
Twiddle Muffs are knitted hand muffs that provide a source of visual, tactile and sensory stimulation for people with dementia.
According to senior nurse Cathie Quine hospital settings can often be confusing and overwhelming for dementia sufferers especially after an accident.
The muffs have interesting 'bits and bobs' attached to them which are designed to provide activity for their hands helping to keep them calm and comforted:
