A pizza delivery driver from Douglas has been jailed after being caught driving whilst disqualified.
Police stopped 49-year-old James Jeremy Rennison, of Empire Terrace, on August 15th as he was delivering for Pizza Hut.
Rennison later pleaded guilty to the offence and admitted having no insurance, failing to provide a sample and committing fraud by making false representations.
At Douglas Courthouse yesterday his advocate told the court he'd lied to his employer because he was 'penniless' and needed the job.
Explaining that the offences had been driven by 'desperation' his advocate added: "The defendant is in a very sorry situation - in fact I would say he's at rock bottom."
Sending him to prison for 46 weeks Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said Rennison was a repeat offender who showed 'disregard' for court orders.
She also disqualified him from driving for 10 years and until he's taken and passed an extended driving test and drink driving rehabilitation course.
