Island's domestic violence provision ahead of UK

Island women suffering domestic violence have been better provided for than those in England and Wales.

Women have been given the “right to know” if their partner has a violent past by local police here for years – but ‘Clare’s Law’ was only rolled out further afield on Saturday.

Though Tynwald hasn’t passed legislation, the Minister for Home Affairs has described the current provision as “more than sufficient”.

The UK scheme is named after Clare Wood, who was strangled and set on fire by ex-boyfriend George Appleton at her home in Salford in Greater Manchester.
