Island Postal workers vote for industrial action

The Island's postal force has voted unanimously to ballot for industrial action.

Deputy General Secretary Postal for the Communications Workers Union Terry Pullinger confirmed the news, following an emergency meeting earlier this afternoon.

The union, which represents postmen and women in Britain, called the meeting for the Island Postal branch this afternoon.

Workers met to discuss their future, highlighting potential changes to both their pay and pension.

Mr Pullinger says the Island's postal force have shown 'great dignity' and 'self respect' by voting unanimously to ballot for industrial action, in defence of themselves and a great public service.

He says it's 'against the backdrop of the most horrific cuts to service and terms and conditions he's ever seen.'

He adds 'the day that we did right was the day we decided to fight.'

It comes following a consultation being launched on the five-year strategy of the Isle of Man Post Office, with concerns over cost-cutting and the effect it could have for Manx workers.

The consultation - which hasn't yet been published - closes on Tuesday, October 2.
