The government says it's formally adopted a definition of antisemitism to mark Holocaust Memorial Day today, Tuesday, January 27.
It's announced it will now officially use the working definition from the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).
This describes a perception of Jews which may be expressed as hatred.
It reads in full as:
‘Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.’
The Council of Ministers says it's agreed although the Island's Jewish community is small, adopting the definition might promote inclusivity.
