IOM Samaritans encouraging people to 'break the silence'

The Island's Samaritans have launched a new campaign in the aims of 'breaking the silence'.

The charity says Winter can be a tough time for many - particularly as so many households brace themselves for higher bills amid the cost of living crisis.

As a result, it wants to remind the Manx community they don't have to struggle alone - and is encouraging people to open up about their mental health struggles.

Currently - every 90 minutes someone dies by taking their own live in the UK - however, the Samaritans wants people to remember - talking saves lives.

More than 13,000 listening volunteers will be on hand to answer calls from anyone feeling overwhelmed this Winter.

Mike Nudd, Branch Director at Isle of Man Samaritans said: “This time of year can be challenging for all sorts of reasons. Whether its family problems, financial worries or the grief for the loss of a loved one, the festive season can often magnify these pressures which might be especially hard this year, with many households facing the Cost of Living crisis.

Last year, Samaritans volunteers responded to 244,254 calls in the UK and Ireland over the festive period.

Volunteers from Isle of Man Samaritans will be there round-the-clock to make sure that people who are struggling always have someone to turn to.

Anyone can contact Samaritans free any time from any phone on 116 123, even a mobile without credit, this number won’t show up on your phone bill.
