Inflation rose in August, say government stats

Inflation jumped up by 0.2 per cent last month, according to the government's latest figures.

The Cabinet Office says the Consumer Prices Index stood at 4.1 per cent in for August, up from 3.9 per cent in July.

The largest rise came in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels - with have risen by 10.3 per cent over the past year.

And there's also bad news for drinkers and smokers, with alcoholic drinks and tobacco going up by 4.4 per cent.
