Home Affairs reveals necessary cutbacks

Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson

The Department of Home Affairs budget report confirmed that significant cutbacks and savings would need to be made to cope with its £691,900 cut.

Consultation has begun on where the cuts will be made with the Department working alongside staff and trade unions.

The  Department will be assessing each front line service in an effort to mitigate risk both to the public and the remaining staff.

After a thorough review into the constabulary's scale and methods of operation, it's been determined that they may no longer be able to keep all of the current stations open.

With regards to the Fire and Rescue Service they may not be able to continue their same proactive approach to community safety initiatives in the future.

Minister Juan Watterson has said that due to the nature of the DHA's services frontline reductions need to be carefully evaluated to reduce impact to the public.
