Flu Jabs Immunise Against Swine Flu Also
The Manx public are being warned that there is a strong likelihood that Swine Flu will return this winter.
The H1N1 virus dominated the headlines for a large part of last year seemingly coming out of nowhere and leaving an estimated 25,000 people dead.
This year’s flu vaccine offers protection against the H1N1 strand and is readily available for vulnerable groups, including over 65’s, pregnant women and those with underlying medical conditions.
After the initial outbreak and concern about its severity it has since been identified as a reasonably mild virus, which can be treated easily with medication.
Public Health Director Dr Kishore wants to remind the public that they stand a better chance of warding off the virus if they adhere to high levels of hygiene.
If you think you may have contracted it however you’re urged to stay at home and seek advice from your GP over the phone, but normally it should clear up within 3 to 5 days.
