Heavy snowfall throughout the night has left the majority of the roads in the Southern half of the Island treacherous, with the message not to travel unless it’s completely essential.
Today is traditionally one of the
busiest shopping days of the year with the weather expected to seriously affect
the shopping figures in Douglas.
The Department of Infrastructure teams have been out gritting throughout the night but continued snowfall is hampering their efforts
Over the last two days the DOI gritters have been operating 24/7, 13 crews were out yesterday, with 9 crews out over night trying to clear all of the Island’s main routes.
South of the Island seems to be getting the worst of the snow, although its now started snowing quite heavy on the east coast with Laxey and Douglas getting about an inch of snow.
The buses have suspended all services with a further review expected in 2 hours, Ronaldsway is closed also until at least mid-day, a further review will be carried out in an hour.
Currently the Mountain Road is closed, as is Tholt Y Will and Brandywell.(AUDIO ABOVE)
