New guidance on responding to e-mails and letters has been published.
Officials say it sets out the standards and principles for doing so and these are followed across the government.
They add how quickly responses can be depend on how complex any query is and can range between 10 to 20 working days.
The new guidance can be found on the Office of Human Resources website.
