Grianagh Court fire starter granted bail

A Douglas man who's pleaded guilty to starting a fire at a mental health facility on the Island has been bailed.

53-year-old Graham Johnson appeared at Douglas Courthouse yesterday where he admitted a charge of arson.

The court heard how he'd been involved with a fire at Grianagh Court on June 22nd this year which caused over £6,000 of damage.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes was told it had been his intention to escape from the facility, where he was receiving treatment, by setting the fire alarm off and leaving in a taxi.

The case has now been adjourned until September 16th whilst further consideration is given to the sentencing options.

In the meantime Mr Johnson, who had been remanded at Jurby Prison, has been bailed.
