The future of tidal, wave and green technology was discussed in Tynwald this week, when MHK David Ashford quizzed Minister Laurence Skelly on the issue.
Mr Ashford asked the Minister for Economic Development what attempts were being made to encourage the creation of a 'green technology hub' on Island.
Mr Skelly claimed his department has been working closely with the Department of Infrastructure to seek out 'expressions of interest' for tidal projects.
He said they had granted a company a survey licence to explore possibilities around the Point of Ayre and hosted an offshore energy event in Liverpool's Festival of Business.
Mr Ashford also asked about whether DED would consider offering a grant system for the sorts of technologies that could be used here.
The Minister said he doesn't 'believe it is up to the Isle of Man to provide the grants' - instead it is part of the 'wider remit of the British Islands'.
