The government is warning not to employ traders who cold call and tout for work.
The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has received an influx of 'cowboy builder' reports, and is urging the public to be on their guard.
Cold calling is illegal on the Island, and callers often offer work that is cheap, quick and probably not needed.
Anyone who has already agreed to work as the result of a cold call should contact the OFT.
