The Department of Home Affairs says it doesn't know how much its vanity licence plates are worth.
A Freedom of Information request asked about the number of plates owned by the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service containing the numbers 999.
In its response, the department said there were 36 such number plates but it doesn't know how much they are worth or how much it cost to transfer them between vehicles.
It added the Department of Infrastructure might hold relevant information about the plates.
The government sells cherished number plates for between £100 and £7,500 each.
