Government to clamp down on excessive election campaign spending

Government is legislating against excessive money spent on electioneering by prospective MHKs. 

A number of amendments to the Representation of the People Act will come into effect from 23rd September this year. 
 
It includes a limitation on costs above £2,000 plus 50 pence per registered elector for any overall campaign.  
 
Last year, a consultation garnered 20 responses from interested parties including existing MHKs, MLCs and legal practitioners.
