Today is World Sepsis Day, and the Isle of Man government hopes to raise awareness of the signs of the condition.
Indications of sepsis include slurred speech, extreme shivering or muscle pain, not passing urine all day, severe breathlessness or skin discolouration, and it can be extremely serious or fatal if not recognised and treated quickly.
Emma Cleator, Matron of the Acute Health Division, says it's critical we continue to raise awareness, and it's important to know the signs and symptoms and ask the question, 'could it be sepsis?'
