The government's reminding people to clear any balances on their MiCards before they stop working on New Year's Eve.
The system is being phased out in favour of paying benefits and pensions directly into bank accounts.
The Treasury says any money still on cards after Wednesday, December 31 will be sent by cheque in the New Year.
And it adds those who haven't confirmed account details or applied for the Payment Exception Service will get cheques in the post.
