The government has defended threatening to sue a popular island brewery over the initials "TT".
This week, Bushy's revealed the department had trademarked the initials and was threatening to sue if the brewery used them in promotional material.
In a statement, the department says it took action against Bushy's because it's obliged to do so.
And it adds the Santon-based brewery which runs the traditional beer tent on Douglas Promenade isn't the only business to fall foul of its intellectual property rights.
The DED says it regularly contacts businesses which may have breached its rights, and it has a duty to protect its property.
And the department says it's committed to finding a solution and talking with Bushy's to reach a solution.
