The government says it's considered getting rid of tax discs for cars, but hasn't made any decision yet.
A Freedom of Information request asked about the future of the paper discs and their cost.
In its response, the Department of Infrastructure 477,533 discs have been printed in the past five years, costing £1.36 each.
And it says as part of digitising services, scrapping them has been explored, but there's no timeframe for that happening.
