GCSE results analysis show both positives and negatives

The overall A* to G pass rate is at a record high with some individual students achieving outstanding outcomes; however other aspects are slightly below those of recent years.

Exams were taken in approximately 50 separate categories ranging from Italian to Engineering, with all students entered for Maths and English and at least one science.

For the first time the pass rate exceeded 99% by point one of a percentage, with the score per student at 381, the fifth highest on record.

There’s been some controversy with a new grading system with schools complaining about the change in grade boundaries in English Language, leaving pupils with lower results than expected.

The results published are not comparable with those released in the UK as they draw from all students and school, whereas the Island collate data simply from the 16 year olds in attendance at the local secondary schools.
