Former primary school site can't be designated brownfield

Environment Minister Clare Barber says the Buchan School site hasn't been designated as a brownfield site - because there's no such thing under Manx law.

She was responding to a Tynwald question for written reply from Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse.

In her response, she said she couldn't talk directly about a planning application to put 85 homes on the former school site in Castletown because the proposals are still being considered.

But she said the term "brownfield" came from UK planning law and the nearest Manx equivalent would be "previously developed" land.
