With forecasts predicting a cold snap until mid February, and a flu virus strain moving in from North America, people in the ‘at risk’ health category are being encouraged to get their flu vaccination.
The at risk category consists of people aged 65 and above, those with chronic diseases and pregnant women.
If you feel you have the flu you’re advised to keep yourself isolated from others, especially those who are more likely to get the illness, as well as adhering to strict levels of hygiene.
Dr Paul Emerson from Public Health says ignoring this message could carry serious health implications:
