Fisherman fined for landing small scallops

A Peel Fisherman has been prosecuted for retaining scallops below the permitted size.

Skipper Robert Parton pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined £3,000 with costs of £125.

The discovery was made following a spot inspection of the vessel earlier this month, the inspection revealed a quantity of scallops under the 110mm legal size.

The vessel was escorted back to Douglas harbour where it was detained.

Member for Fisheries Kate Beecroft said the conviction gives a clear message to other skippers that they must all abide by the bye-laws.
