New retirement age laws are due to come into force in just over 18 months.
In Tynwald on Tuesday, Policy and Reform Minister, Chris Thomas, was questioned on the subject by Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper.
Parts of the Equality Act covering age discrimination will come into force in 2020.
Mr Thomas says after that, companies will have to justify having a retirement age.
