The Isle of Man fire service is warning of the importance of smoke alarms.
It comes after a kitchen fire at a flat in Strang yesterday.
It happened at about 18:00 BST and took three fire appliance crews an hour to deal with.
A fire service spokesman said: "Properly installed smoke alarms play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries.
"If there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you the time to get out".
