The owners of a fish and chip shop in Port Erin have been praised for their 'quick actions' after a fire yesterday.

Firefighters from Port Erin and Castletown were called to the shop on Station Road just before 4.30pm.

They were met with thick black smoke and flames from the flat roof at the rear of the property.

Once extinguished it became evident the fire was confined to the extraction system for the chip fryers.

Crews remained in attendance for three hours cutting away the roofing materials to remove 'hot spots' and make the building safe.
