Fine for passenger who called taxi driver a 'pervert'

A St Johns man has been fined £600 after being abusive to a taxi driver after a night out.

46-year-old Karl Morling began 'ranting' at the man calling him a 'pervert' after getting into his vehicle on November 27th last year.

The driver had stopped outside the Palace Hotel in Douglas at 3.45am to pick up a pre-booked fare but Morling got in instead and refused to get back out.

To avoid confrontation the driver agreed to take him but as Morling's tirade continued he drove to Police Headquarters instead where he was arrested.

At Douglas Courthouse this week Morling pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words and behaviour.

His advocate told the court it was "very clear" his behaviour on the night was "unacceptable" saying "alcohol got the better of him" and he wished to apologise.

Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also ordered him to pay £125 in costs and banned him from licensed premises for two months.
