Fine for Northern Irish fisherman caught without licence

The Provider

A fisherman from Northern Ireland has been fined £8,000 after being caught scallop fishing in Manx waters.

John Baldwin appeared before the Deputy High Bailiff last week where he admitted fishing without a licence on November 23rd.

Enforcement officers from the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture spotted his vessel - the 'Provider' - catching scallops off Chicken's Rock.

Checks showed the boat didn't have a licence - at Douglas Courthouse Baldwin was also ordered to pay £50 in costs and to forfeit his catch which was worth £220.
