15 fewer boats have been authorized to fish for king scallops this year.
The government has introduced a number of new measures to protect the fishery's long term future.
Sixty boats have been given permission as part of the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture's plan to deliver a 'prosperous' fishery through collaboration with the industry.
There are also restrictions on the amount and type of fishing gear allowed to protect juvenile scallops.
