Extended support for tourism and travel businesses announced

Government has announced extended support under a Covid-19 financial scheme for businesses in the tourism and travel sector.

The Salary Support Scheme will remain open to organisations in those industries as well as launderettes where, in the year before the Covid-19 pandemic, more than 50% of the businesses’ turnover was derived from the hotel and tourist trade.

The last period for which other sectors can apply for Salary Support is Period 16, which covers April 26 to May 23 this year.

Treasury Minister, Alf Cannan MHK, says: "The Salary Support Scheme has played a vital role in providing financial assistance to individuals and businesses during the pandemic, and will remain in place for a little longer to support the travel and tourism sector until the border restrictions move to level 1."

The amount of support and how to claim remains the same of up to £310 for a full-time equivalent employee per week.

Officials are reminding residents applicants need to demonstrate a reduction in revenue of at least 25% due to Coronavirus restrictions.

Further details about the scheme can be obtained by calling 648 125.
