Major Retailers Expressing Interest in Vacant Store
The dormant Woolworths store is dragging down Douglas Town
Centre says Councillor David Christian.
It’s approaching 2 years since the store was vacated when
the once major high street retailer became the first high profile victim of the
credit crunch.
Councillor Christian is confident that once new occupants
move into the Woolworths store it will be the catalyst for other empty shops to attract new business.
Even basic maintenance on the store has been difficult for
the Council as it’s owned by an off Island company who refused permission to
screen off the windows in an effort to make it less of an eyesore.
As it stands a host of major high street outlets are
rumoured to be in the closing stages of finalising a deal which would see them
move into the property in the new year.
