Education and Children look to challenging year ahead

Pay rises and changes to pension contributions are the main threats to the Department of Education and Children.

That's according to its chief executive officer Ronald Barr - who's been given a figure of £90.5 million for 2015/16.
 
Students making a contribution to tuition fees, and a rise in shared services achieved a saving of £3.8 million last year. 
 
However, following a £1.4 million increase for its capital loan charges - the department budget will be reduced overall by £1.1 million.  
 
Mr Barr says that - as an employer - it's a worrying challenge:
