Drunken woman's 'appalling' behaviour lands her with fine

A Douglas woman who smashed a nightclub door during a drunken night out has been fined.

27-year-old Anne Marie Laughlin 'lost her temper' after she was refused entry to Bordello Wine Bar and Nightclub on November 27th.

At Douglas Courthouse this week Laughlin pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly and damaging property last year.

She was involved in an argument outside the Loch Promenade venue at 3.10am, whilst waiting for a taxi, becoming 'abusive' to door staff who tried to defuse the situation.

Laughlin tried to re-enter the club which had been closed - she punched the door 'several times' before kicking it twice which caused the glass to shatter.

Police were called and she was arrested and taken to Police Headquarters where CCTV of the incident was shown to her.

Her advocate told the court she'd kicked the door "out of frustration" to get the attention of door staff so she could use the toilet.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes fined her £350, ordered her to pay £200 in compensation and £125 in costs - Laughlin was also banned from entering licensed premises for one month.

Passing sentence Mrs Hughes described her behaviour as "appalling" and said arguing with door staff whilst drunk "never ends happily".
