Ethan Audsley, of Fuchsia Lane in Peel, appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood at Douglas Courthouse.
The 21-year-old admitted driving under the influence of cannabis after he was stopped by police in Farrant's Way in Castletown on August 22.
Defence advocate David Reynolds told the court Audsley was studying psychology and sports science in Chester and wanted to be a teacher but his conviction would put that plan in jeopardy.
Fining Audsley £1,000 and banning him for two years, Mrs Braidwood said: "You are clearly well thought of and this was out of character."
