Drink driving OAP banned from the road

A pensioner from Douglas has been banned from the road for two years after being caught drink driving.

Police were alerted to 68-year-old Sylvia Pemberton, of Derby Road, after another motorist became concerned about the manner of her driving.

Officers intercepted her at 8.40pm on Saturday and pulled her over at the Woodbourne Pub in Douglas - she smelt of intoxicants, her speech was slurred and her eyes glazed.

She failed a roadside breath test and was arrested and taken to Police Headquarters.

At Douglas Courthouse this week Pemberton pleaded guilty to drink driving on April 15th.

Her advocate told the court she'd been for supper and "a couple" of glasses of wine before deciding to drive home adding "she accepts with the benefit of hindsight this was a foolish decision".

Sentencing Pemberton Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes fined her £850 and ordered her to pay prosecution costs of £125.

Telling her she'd now lost her "good character" she also ordered her to retake and pass an extended driving test at the end of her ban.
