The leader of Douglas Borough Council says rates are a 'vital income source' which protect essential services.
David Christian spoke ahead of the authority issuing its rate demands for 2020-21 and saying he understands many homes and businesses are suffering financial difficulties during the Coronavirus pandemic but that rate demands are a statutory obligation.
Mr Christian is urging any companies or households struggling for funds during the outbreak to contact the council's rates section team who, he says, will take a 'sympathetic view' of those finding it tough to meet the demands.
For information on alternative payment options, including short-term deferrals and reductions, residents should contact rates@douglas.gov.im - the public counter at Douglas Town Hall is currently closed.
