Douglas flats fire sends 12 people to hospital

The Island's Fire and Rescue service was called out to its second major blaze in a week last night.

Crews were called to a four-storey black of flats on Bucks Road just after 3.30am and discovered two people were trapped in a top floor apartment.

They were rescued safely by firefighters and a total of 12 people had to be treated by the Ambulance Service before going to Nobles Hospital for checks - all were later discharged.

A major incident was declared and 25 firefighters tackled the blaze, which is thought to have started in a bathroom extractor fan.
