There will be no carnival in Douglas this year, after councillors struggled to agree on a suitable alternative location for the event.
The local authority has blamed the cancellation on disruption caused by the government’s promenade regeneration scheme.
A proposed route for the carnival procession around Noble’s Park was put forward by the council’s regeneration and community committee earlier this year.
It also suggested combining the event with Noble’s Park Fun Day.
However this plan was rejected by the executive committee over fears of having large floats in a residential area, and no budget for the carnival was approved.
Instead, the event will be ‘re-launched’ to coincide with the completion of the promenade scheme, and efforts will be made to enhance Noble’s Park Fun Day.
