Douglas bin collections: Risk of vermin 'minimal'

Douglas Council insists the risk of increased vermin is 'minimal', as it cuts bin collections in the capital from weekly to fortnightly.

The announcement was made earlier this month, alongside a 3.7% increase in rates.

Responding on social media to concerns form local residents, a council spokesman said if food waste is bagged correctly there shouldn't be a vermin problem.

The council warned additional bags of rubbish placed next to wheelie bins won't be collected- instead they'll be "put back in empty bins, reducing capacity for the next two weeks"

Fortnightly bin collections in Douglas are expected to begin later this year, shortly after the introduction of a garden waste collection service in August.
